Turning Maths: Diameters, Radial Allowances and Pass Counts

Turning Maths: Diameters, Radial Allowances and Pass Counts

Original quantitative topic practice in English. All 24 questions are included in a shuffled order. Each question supplies its own data and model assumptions; use only those assumptions. Choose one answer. Practice target: 20/24, not an official examination pass mark. Keep full intermediate precision. These exercises cover the calculation scope in the title; they do not constitute a full Red Seal examination, trade qualification, site design or operating specification.

A cylindrical blank is 73 mm in diameter. The finished diameter is 44 mm. Leave 0.5 mm radial stock for the finishing pass. Roughing passes may remove at most 2 mm radially per pass. Use the minimum whole number of roughing passes; the last roughing pass removes the remainder. This is a dimension-planning exercise, not cutting advice. Calculate the diameter reduction in the finishing pass in mm. Keep intermediate values unrounded; round the final answer to 4 decimal places if needed.
