Landscape Layout Maths: Plant Grids with Edge Setbacks

Landscape Layout Maths: Plant Grids with Edge Setbacks

Original quantitative topic practice in English. All 24 questions are included in a shuffled order. Each question supplies its own data and model assumptions; use only those assumptions. Choose one answer. Practice target: 20/24, not an official examination pass mark. Keep full intermediate precision. These exercises cover the calculation scope in the title; they do not constitute a full Red Seal examination, trade qualification, site design or operating specification.

A rectangular planting area is 16×9 m. Plant centres must be at least 0.5 m from each boundary. Centres follow a rectangular grid with spacing 1.5 m along the length and 1 m across the width. Put the first centre at the minimum setback and add centres while staying within the far setback. Species suitability is outside this geometry exercise. Calculate the available centre-to-centre span across the width in metres. Keep intermediate values unrounded; round the final answer to 4 decimal places if needed.
